English Walnut Bowl #3
This small bowl is 3.5 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches high. It is made from the dark brown heart wood of a large English Walnut tree. The wood was salvaged from a friend's garden in 2012. The rim of the bowl is undercut and has turquoise inlay. It is finished in pure tung oil.
Staghorn Sumac #2
This small natural edge bowl is 4 inches in diameter and 2 inches high. It is turned from the trunk of a small Staghorn Sumac tree. The wood was salvaged from a friend's garden in La Center, Washington in 2012. The bowl is finished in pure tung oil.
Staghorn Sumac Bowl #1
This tiny bowl is just 3.5 inches in diameter and 1.75 inches high. It is made from Staghorn Sumac wood salvaged from a friend's garden in La Center, Washington in 2012. The wood initially had a vivid green coloration, but has since transformed to a hazel brown. The grain of the wood is still very striking, giving the bowl a different look from different angles. It is finished using pure tung oil.
Cherry Bowl #1
This bowl is 5 inches in diameter and 3.5 inches high. It is made from the wood of an old Cherry tree. The wood was salvaged from a farm near Portland, Oregon in 2012. The wood grain swirls nicely around the bowl. This was my first attempt at undercutting the inside of a bowl to give more of a hollow-form style, and I like the fuller form. I'm still experimenting with stone inlay.
Plum Bowl #1
This tiny plum bowl is only 3.25 inches in diameter and 1.25 inches high. It is made from a branch section of an old plum tree from a friend's garden in La Center, Washington. The wood had some small cracks which I filled with stone inlay. It is finished in pure tung oil.
English Walnut Bowl #2
This bowl is 6 inches in diameter and 3.5 inches high. The wood came from an old English Walnut tree salvaged from a friend's garden in Vancouver, Washington. The wood is a crotch section with an interesting mix of dark heart wood and light sap wood. This was also my first experiment with stone inlay. The bowl is finished in 100% pure tung oil.
Here is another view of the bowl from above.
English Walnut Bowl #1
This bowl is one of the first things I made on my new wood turning lathe. It is 6 inches in diameter and 3.5 inches high. The wood was given to me by friends Shelly and Jenny. It came from an old English Walnut tree that was cut down in Vancouver, Washington in 2011. The finish on the bowl is pure tung oil. I particularly like the swirl of dark heart wood around the rim of the bowl.
